Hedge Funds 10/21/08

Here are some terms generally used when dealing with Hedge Funds:

-Market Neutral
-Arbitrage
-Convertible Arbitrage
- Merger Arbitrage
-Leverage
-Liquidity
-Risk Management
-Option
-Short Selling (shorts)
-Long Portfolio
-Concentrated Portfolio
-Index(ing)
-Alpha
-Beta
-Distress

In general, hedge funds require you to lock up your money for long periods of time. It’s private, it’s risky and you generally have to have a lot of money in order to open one up. They do lots of rich, heavy research, which is nice, especially when you are investing such a large amount of money!
